ARK ASA Araneo TLC — Reworked Spider, Web Mechanics, Tactical Uses

What is the Araneo TLC?
The Araneo TLC (Tender Love & Care) is a free ARK: Survival Ascended update released on 19 May 2026 that reworks the Araneo spider from the ground up. It dropped alongside the launch of Fantastic Tames Season 1 and is available to every ASA owner — no DLC required.
The reworked Araneo is now a serious tactical mount with three new capabilities that didn't exist on the original creature.
What's new in the Araneo TLC?
1. Web traversal lines
Araneos can now spin web lines between elevated points — trees, cliffs, structures — and traverse them like a tightrope. This makes them genuinely useful for moving across uneven terrain without flying.
2. Ambush drops
The Araneo can now climb to a high elevation, hang upside down on a web, and drop directly onto a target for a surprise attack. The drop deals bonus initial damage and applies the spider's web slow.
3. Updated web saddle mechanics
The new Araneo saddle includes:
- Sticky web shot — ranged web that slows enemy tames or players
- Trap web — placeable web that holds wild dinos in place (great for taming high-level creatures)
- Tactical loadout that genuinely competes with mid-tier flyers for utility
4. Reworked taming mechanics
The Araneo's taming behaviour got tightened — they're now slightly more aggressive and harder to passive-tame unless you use the right approach. We'll update with confirmed taming food once the dossier is fully revealed.
Best uses for the reworked Araneo
Cave exploration
The web-traversal lines turn cave systems into web highways. The Araneo's natural cave-creature status means it spawns and operates inside caves without the usual flyer restrictions.
Taming support
Trap web is now a legitimate alternative to bola/bear-trap setups for catching skittish or fast tames. Particularly useful for creatures that bola won't hold (large dinos).
PvE ambush gameplay
Drop-from-web ambush is genuinely fun for ambush playstyles — and lethal against unaware wild dinos for stat-XP grinding.
Wyvern egg runs (on appropriate maps)
The web lines let you traverse Scorched Earth's wyvern canyons without flying — risky but viable for stealth runs.
How does the Araneo TLC affect BG Gaming's cluster?
The TLC applies automatically across the cluster on all maps where Araneos spawn:
- Standard 5x taming rates apply to the new Araneo
- Cave spawn rates unchanged — the TLC doesn't alter spawn behaviour
- Saddle engram unlocks via the standard Araneo engram (no extra unlock cost)
- Existing pre-TLC Araneos on the cluster automatically inherit the new abilities — no need to re-tame
If you had old Araneos sitting in cryo from before 19 May, they'll work with the new abilities the moment they're released.
